The Total Available Graphics Memory refers to the Windows operating system classification of graphics memory, which may vary depending on the operating condition, version of device driver and system memory size.
The Windows operating system uses the following formula to calculate the Total Available Graphics Memory:
Total Available Graphics Memory = (Total System Memory MB) - 512 MB) / 2) + X MB
Total System Memory = RAM
X = Dedicated graphics memory
For e.g., if the computer has 2 GB (2048 MB) of RAM and 512MB of dedicated graphics memory (my TOSHIBA laptop), the Total Available Graphics Memory is 1280 MB. If the computer has 4 GB (4096 MB) of RAM and 128 MB of dedicated graphics memory, the Total Available Graphics Memory is 1920 MB.
NOTE: The Total Available Graphics Memory listed in marketing specifications may vary slightly from the calculated amount due to variations of the BIOS, graphics driver, or operating system. Therefore, my TOSHIBA laptop has got 1275 MB Total Available Graphics Memory.
